Board-certified in orthopedic surgery and trained at some of the nation's most respected programs, Dr. Bastian has built his career around one thing: the extremities — and treating them exceptionally well.
Dr. Bastian's path to Arizona is personal, not promotional. His wife is a proud Arizona native, and after the two married he began splitting his life between Los Angeles and Scottsdale. Somewhere along the way the Valley stopped being a place he visited and started being home — the people, the pace, the desert mornings, the way Arizonans look out for one another.
Ocotillo Orthopedics is his way of bringing world-class surgical care to the community he's grown to love. Named for the resilient desert plant that blooms brilliantly after the rains, the practice reflects how he thinks about recovery: with the right care, people come back stronger.
Dr. Bastian is known for taking an educational approach to patient care. He empowers patients by thoroughly explaining their options and helping them make informed decisions — making sure every part of the treatment plan is clear and accessible. He believes health is a journey, not a destination, and he partners with patients to restore mobility and get them back to the activities they love.
Dr. Bastian trained at programs known for producing meticulous, research-minded surgeons. His shoulder & elbow fellowship at the Kerlan-Jobe Institute — a name synonymous with elite sports orthopedics — sharpened a subspecialty focus he carries into every case.
Dr. Bastian remains an active teacher and educator, holding clinical faculty appointments at multiple medical schools — including in Arizona.
Dr. Bastian is an editor and peer reviewer for the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery and has authored 14 peer-reviewed publications spanning rotator cuff repair, shoulder instability and reconstruction, elbow imaging, and periprosthetic infection. He has presented his work at national meetings including AAOS, AOSSM and the ASES Fellows' Symposium.
Dr. Bastian is fluent in English, Spanish and Armenian, and has served on orthopedic medical missions in Armenia, China and Nagorno-Karabakh. Outside of medicine he's well-versed in piano and guitar and enjoys the outdoor, active lifestyle that drew him to Arizona in the first place.
Dr. Sevag Bastian is a board-certified, Kerlan-Jobe fellowship-trained orthopedic extremity surgeon who treats the shoulder, elbow, hand and wrist, knee, and foot and ankle, now seeing patients in Scottsdale and greater Phoenix.
